In August 2009 there was the reopening of the Salzburg State Theatre, renovated by Scheicher architects. The lighting concept for the façade is developed by podpod design. With its new illumination the Salzburg State Theatre can show its importance now even at night.

The theatre is located in the inner city in the pedestrian zone, that´s why podpod design used spotlighting where the projectors are close situated to the building to avoid blinding.

This technique guarantees a high effectiveness by respecting the nature at ones. So the emissions of the light going into the sky are as low as possible while the light is modeling the structure of the facade very well.

Every evening the light shows which genre is presented on the inside: play- blue

The dramatic mixture of white light with colored effect light gives the building a new identity at night. In addition the color of the light communicates to the outside, what is happening on the inside. Every color symbolizes a genre of the theatre, and makes clear what is going to be shown today: opera is magenta, play is blue, ballet is green and young country is orange.

Light as cityscape forming element

With the new illumination of the façade there was created a friendly and welcoming light space around the building. The theatre can show its importance between the Schwarzstraße and the Markatplatz.

Especially the visible axis between the Mirabell garden and the fortress Hohensalzburg is very impressive.

Floating crossover  between colored and white light

With the use of a very high level of light technic the shape of the building is specially underlined with the skin-light-philosophy. The floating crossover between colored light from below and white light from above creates a magical lighting effect. Thereby a pleasant light space is developed for the pedestrians.
