In December 2012 the indoor swimming pool Amalienbad were re-opened after being renovated. The water treatment was modernized and the whole lighting concept was planned totally new.

Light concept

After consulting the Federal Chancellery of the Republic of Austria it was decided that the lamps of the 70s were not worth keeping. Instead the new lighting should primarly outline the historic architecture of the swimming hall.  The new light fitting should be integrated as best as possible in the architecture of the swimming hall. So that the visitors could experience the  ambience, without being dazzled. Behind the beams oft he balkony there are dimmable projectors which light up the surrounding zone oft he pool. The lighting on the hallways behind consists of direct light from LED-lamps and an atmospheric colour-controllable lightening of the ceiling, which comes from near the air ventilation ducts. Depending on the light atmosphere the ceiling surfaces are accentuated in turquoise, golden yellow or white.

The luminaires themselves step in the backround, the light contributes to the impression of the architecture.

Staircase lighting

The staircase leads with its constant illumination to the upper levels.

Corridors

The corridors at the wardrobes were totally illuminated with LED. The direct light is white, the ceiling color sets a contrast to it. Depending on the lighting scene, the ceiling is encased in turquoise, golden or white light.

In total 774 luminaires were installed. Therefore LED- and conventional light technologies were combined. In doing so 60 % LED lamps were used. Although the level of lighting was doubled even nearly tripled, the connected rating of the lighting could be reduced by 57 %.

* Daylighting with intensity regulation, full lighting (everything is turned on, turquoise accentuated ceiling on the hallways)
